Each summer, our team expands by more than 70 staff members. Counselors and support staff are carefully selected based on their character, commitment, and ability to serve as positive role models.
We seek to hire the very best people we can find at Camp La Junta, and our thorough hiring process reflects this. Each new applicant is interviewed and screened before contracted to work in the summer. The process includes a complete application, an in-depth interview, background check and references.
Our summer team is a healthy balance of return staff, fresh new staff and a valuable complement of counselors who grew up at camp, themselves.
After selection, our staff participates in an extensive staff training which covers the total camp experience from camper/staff interaction policies to dealing with homesickness to teaching a fun and safe activity class. In addition to safety, it is our intention that our college aged staff excel at providing admirable role models. We expect staff to be committed to putting their talent and energy into all aspects of each boy’s camp experience, from cabin life to class and play time. Training assures our staff are well-equipped to handle the days’ challenges and make an enthusiastic, nurturing team for our campers.
